WILLOWBROOK — A man was arrested after he shot himself in the leg with a stolen gun, prosecutors said.

Jurgen Tyli, 19, told police he found a .38 caliber revolver inside of Willowbrook Park, near 151 Morani St., at about 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, a law enforcement source said.

Tyli said that when he was inspecting the gun it discharged, hitting him in the leg, the source said.

He was taken to the Staten Island University Hospital North and arrested inside, prosecutors said.

The gun Tyli had was reported stolen from Bridgeport, Ct., in 2002, prosecutors said.

Tyli was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of stolen property and possession of ammunition at his Wednesday arraignment, the Staten Island District Attorney's office said.

He was released without bail and is due back in court on Oct. 23, according to online court records.

His lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
