CRIME BLOTTER: Attacker Uses Chemical-Soaked Rag to Knock Woman Unconscious

FORT GREENE — A 51-year-old woman was rendered unconscious after an attacker placed a chemical-soaked rag over her face on the street outside the Auburn shelter, police said.

The woman was on the street at about 9 p.m. Sept. 12 when a person she did not know approached her with the rag, the NYPD said. She was unconscious for an unknown amount of time, police said. She was taken to Methodist Hospital, according to authorities.

Other recent crimes in the 88th precinct include:

► A subway platform brawl over a pair of Beats headphones sent a 19-year-old man to the hospital on Sept. 10. The man was sitting on a northbound B train at the Atlantic Avenue station roughly 5:50 p.m. when a thief grabbed his $350 headphones and fled to the platform. The two struggled over the headphones, and the thief punched the headphones' owner in the face and head multiple times with a closed fist. The victim was sent to Methodist Hospital.

► A woman was stabbed in the breast by a neighbor while trying to defend a third person from harm in the Ingersoll Houses, according to police. The 25-year-old victim tried to stop another woman from hurting someone else at 3:55 p.m. Sept. 11, police said. When the woman tried to stop her, the attacking woman turned to the victim and stabbed her in the right breast, according to authorities.

► Fort Grace Ice Cream at 293 Greene Ave. was broken into twice in one week, according to the NYPD. On Sept. 7 at about 8 p.m., a rock was thrown through its window and $442 was stolen from the cash register. On the night of Sept. 12, the store was broken into again, and an unknown amount of cash was stolen from its register, police said. Management did not respond to a request for comment.

► A 27-year-old man parked his 1968 Honda CB160 motorcycle outside of 64 St. James Pl. about midnight on Sept. 9, according to police. When he returned at about 5:45 p.m. the next day, it was gone.

► A 60-year-old man was approached from behind and hit in the back of the neck with a blunt object at the Lafayette Grocery roughly 1:30 p.m on Sept. 8, and then was robbed of his iPhone and iPad, police said.

►A safe containing paperwork from tax firm Breukelen Wealth was stolen and then found, according to NYPD. Managing partner Lyshaan Hall said a laptop, scanner and his cigar case were also stolen in the break-in.
