LOWER EAST SIDE — Using information provided by two state databases, DNAinfo New York created an interactive map showing how much the city’s roughly 1,700 public and charter schools reported instances of bullying in the 2013-14 school year.

The map, published last week to coincide with the beginning of the school year, uses the two databases designed to track bullying in schools: VADIR — or Violent and Disruptive Incident Reporting — and the Dignity for All Students Act.

VADIR, which was created in 2000, tracks bullying using 20 categories and a formula to determine if a school should be on a “persistently dangerous” list.

The Dignity for All Students Act, on the other hand, addresses cyberbullying and bias-related bullying in an effort to make schools safe havens free from discrimination, harassment and bullying.

The map also includes an additional statistic for middle and high schools — the number of students who think bullying happens most or all the time at school, according to annual Department of Education surveys for sixth through 12th graders.

In the East Village and Lower East Side, many elementary schools, like P.S. 19 Asher Levy and The Star Academy - P.S. 63 reported no or low numbers of bullying for the 2013-14 school year, data showed.

Middle schools and high schools were more of a mixed bag. Bard High School Early College did not report any bullying incidents that year and only 3 percent of students said bullying occurred most or all the time.

Reporting rates at other schools were higher however, like at the Henry Street School for International Studies, which reported nine VADIR incidents and one DASA incident. More than 30 percent of students there said bullying was a regular occurrence at the school.

A similar number of students said bullying occurred often at the School for Global Leaders, but the school recorded only 10 instances to the VADIR database and 10 incidents in the DASA database.
