A new weekly comedy show has made a move to Crown Heights, bringing a DC-born brand of comedy to Brooklyn.

Funny Moms” is hosted by non-mom duo Sara Amour and Adam Friedland. Friedland started the show in the nation’s capital in 2012 and says he chose its name for no particular reason, save one.

“My mom is the funniest person I know,” he said with a laugh.

Since Friedland moved to New York about a year ago, he and Amour and a cadre of other comedians who performed at the popular show during its two-and-half-year run in DC have looked forward to bringing the weekly comedy event to the city and found a perfect venue at Crown Heights beer hall Berg’n, he said.

The free show kicked off last week at the Bergen Street venue and will be back every Wednesday night at 9 p.m. with at least five comedians who are asked to incorporate multimedia into their performance — the theme of Funny Moms, if there is one, Friedland said.

“Berg’n is equipped to show videos so we’ve encouraged our performers … to do stand-up and then show either a video or something they’ve made online,” he said.

He also said he hopes the city’s comedy scene — which he said is at least 10 times larger than DC's  — offers a more diverse show.

“A big issue in comedy [is] sometimes you get these line-ups dominated strongly by white men, which is something I definitely do not want to happen,” he said. “There’s enough diversity in comedy to not have that.”

Funny Moms' second show will feature Mark Normand, Sam Morril, Greg Johnson, Amber Nelson and Tyler Richardson. Doors open at 899 Bergen St. at 8:30 p.m. every Wednesday and the show begins at 9 p.m. The show is free and open to the public with a suggested donation of “whatever you have” or “everything you have,” Friedland said.
