CASTLETON CORNERS — A man was arrested on Monday for attempting to rape a woman in her Staten Island apartment, police said.
Shahzaib Akbar, 18, was charged with burglary and sexual abuse after police said he forced his way into a 20-year-old woman's Castleton Corners apartment and tried to rape her.
On Sept. 7, police said Akbar followed the woman into her building, near Dongan Avenue and Manor Road, then forced his way into her apartment.
He sexually abused her and tried to rape her before fleeing when the victim started to scream, police said.
The victim was taken to an area hospital in stable condition after the attack, police said.
