CHELSEA — A man boozing it up after work at a corner deli told police he was beaten by a stranger, though he doesn't remember the attack.

The 30-year-old victim, who asked not to be named, was assaulted on Aug. 5 about 2:40 a.m. in the upstairs dining area at the Red Spoon, at 201 W. 14th St, police said.

“The truth is I was very drunk and I don’t remember what happened,” the victim said in Spanish, who asked his name not be used.

Often after he knocks off work at a nearby kitchen he heads to the Red Spoon to unwind, he said.

The next morning when he woke up he was covered in bruises, he said.

Police confirmed the victim’s face, legs, torso, arms were covered in bruises the next day.

“I was confused, I don’t know if maybe I messed up and said something I shouldn’t have,” the victim, who is originally from Mexico, said in Spanish. “[For] 13 years I’ve lived in this country and nothing like this has ever happened.”

No arrests have been made as of Friday afternoon. A worker at the Red Spoon said she did not know anything about the incident and the bodega's manager could not be reached for immediate comment.
