Staten Island Greek Festival

Where: Holy Trinity-St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 1641 Richmond Ave., Bulls Head

The annual Staten Island Greek Festival returns to the parking lot of the Holy Trinity-St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church this weekend. The event will have food, dancing, games, carnival rides and a Mykonos-style windmill on the lot. The festival will be from 6 to 11 p.m. on Friday, from 2 to 11 p.m. on Saturday and from 2 to 10 p.m. on Sunday.

Saturday, Sep. 12

"West Fest" Folk Music Festival

Where: Northerleigh Park, corner of North and Neal Dow avenues, Westerleigh

The eighth annual West Fest folk festival brings nearly 17 musicians to play on three stages at Northerleigh Park. The free event includes a children's stage with performers like Patrick Raftery & The Rock A Silly Band and Ruth Powers playing and a full day of musicians like Matt Wilson, The SI Snugs and Queen Tipsy. The event runs from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., and will be held on Sunday in case of rain.

Flagship Brewery's Oysterfest

Where: Flagship Brewing Company, 40 Minthorne St., Tompkinsville

Flagship Brewery's "Oysterfest" returns for the second year in a row to honor Staten Island's history of beer and oysters from noon to midnight at the brewery. Aside from nearly 10,000 local oysters, the brewery will have five kegs of limited edition Oystery Stout on tap only for the event, which will also feature music performances and food from Ruddy & Deans and Pier 76 if you want more than oysters.

► Mermaid vs. Pirates

Where: Hub 17, 73 Wave St., Stapleton

An interactive photo shoot and costume party pitting mermaids versus pirates will head to Hub 17 from 6 to 11 p.m. People who come dressed up as either a mermaid or pirate can have photo taken by Kenneth Paul Graham in an underwater themed studio. The all-age event will also have body painters, DJs, live murals, vendors and more.

"The Great Gatsby" Reading

Where: Everything Goes Book Cafe, 208 Bay St., Tompkinsville

Staten Island OutLOUD kicks off their "Big Read" series on "The Great Gatsby" tackling chapters one and two. The group will host several events until November where they'll read F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel out loud and talk about the work. The first reading will feature a discussion about the events that surrounded its writing, a puppet show inspired by the novel, and numerous people reading the first two chapters of the book.

 North Shore Business Association Restaurant Crawl

Where: Flagship Brewing Company, 40 Minthorne St., Tompkinsville

The North Shore Business Association will host a restaurant crawl where people can sample eats from nearly 20 restaurants in the neighborhoods, including Craft House, Da Noi, River Dock Cafe and more. The event will have a free shuttle to take people to the different spots from 1 to 5 p.m. After the crawl, people can head to Flagship Brewery from 5 to 7 p.m. for music, art, raffles and more. Tickets are $15 advance, $20 day of.
