ALL WEEKEND

Feast of San Gennaro

Where: Mulberry Street between Canal and Houston streets and Grand and Hester streets between Mott and Baxter streets 
When: Until Sept. 20

Stuff your face with cannoli and zeppoles at Little Italy’s biggest cultural event, which runs through Sept. 20. Highlights include the Grand Procession — complete with floats, marching bands and grand marshal Tony Danza — as well as food tastings by local eateries and the unveiling of the world’s largest gelato cone.

Caribbean Spotlight Film Series

Where: MIST Harlem at 46 W. 116th St., Harlem
When: Sept. 11 to 13

This series shows feature films and documentaries from the Caribbean Islands. They range from topics like the exploitation of laborers by the sugar industry to inmates at a Jamaican prison trying to turn their lives around. Each screening will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker.

St. Anthony’s Market

Where: West Houston Street between Thompson and MacDougal, around the corner from St. Anthony’s Church in SoHo
When: Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. until dusk, all year round

Now in its 23rd year, St. Anthony’s Market (formerly known as “The Marketplace at St. Anthony’s”) purports to be one of the city’s “original” flea markets. Local artisans hawk handmade jewelry and art, plus vintage clothes and antiques.

Friday, Sept. 11

Tribute in Light
Where: 9/11 Memorial Plaza, Downtown
When: 3 p.m. to midnight

Beginning at 6 p.m., two powerful blue beams of light will shine into the the sky, symbolizing the Twin Towers. The 9/11 Memorial Plaza will be open to the public starting at 3 p.m., after the city’s annual reading of the names ceremony. For an up-close experience, you can see the lights from the plaza until midnight, when the plaza closes. But the strong lights are also visible from up to about 60 miles away.

Filipino Design Now and Philippine Gold: Treasures of Forgotten Kingdoms
Where: Asia Society, 725 Park Ave., Upper East Side
When: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

View collections by 14 renowned Filipino designers of fashion, jewelry, blankets, home textiles, and evening bags in the Asia Society’s lobby. Some items will be for sale in the Asia Society’s store. The display coincides with the an exhibition “Philippine Gold: Treasures of Forgotten Kingdoms,” which opens the same day.


Saturday, Sept. 12 

Chelsea gallery openings
Where: Various locations in Chelsea
When: Most galleries are open Saturdays from 10 or 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Dozens of Chelsea galleries have reopened with brand new collections in the past few days. Check out sculptures, paintings and video installations by artists from all over the world.

“100 Gates” Gallery Show and Party
Where: Avant Garde Vapor Lounge // Art Gallery, 319 Grand St., Lower East Side
When: 5 to 9 p.m.

You don’t have to wait for businesses to close to check out the new rolling gate murals painted by several artists on the Lower East Side. The works will be on display at Avant Garde from noon to 9 p.m. starting on Sept. 12, with an opening party that night from 7 to 9 p.m. The show runs until the end of the month.

“Reconciliation,”  A Dance in Remembrance of 9/11
Where: St. Paul’s Chapel, at Broadway and Fulton streets
When: 12 to 1 p.m.

The Trinity Movement Choir will perform “Reconciliation,” an interactive dance piece meant to observe the loss and heroism of 9/11.

Sunday, Sept. 13

37th Annual Third Avenue Street Fair
When: Noon to 5 p.m.
Where: 66th to 86th streets on Third Avenue, Upper East Side

Peruse more than 800 vendors, including small businesses and restaurants down Third Avenue. Check out live performances, from Chicago, Rock Star Karaoke, and Literally Alive Theater, at the TheaterMania block between 74th and 75th streets.

The 7 Train is Finally Opening
Where: Hudson Park, Between 10th and 11th avenues and 33rd and 36th streets, Hell's Kitchen
When: 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Celebrate the opening of the 7 train with live music, food and festivities and fun for the family. Plus it’s a great chance to check out the brand new park. 

Experience Thailand
Where: Union Square
When: 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Celebrate the culture and cuisine of Thailand with culinary demonstrations by Thai chefs, a demonstration of Muay Thai martial arts, and a Thai cooking competition pitting participants against each other for a grand prize trip to Thailand.
