MIDTOWN — September is being welcomed with a five day heat wave that will keep temperatures in the 90s until Thursday, forecasters said.

It will be just the second heat wave of the summer.

Sunday’s high topped 90 degrees, while Monday’s reached 92 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Tuesday and Wednesday will likely be about the same, with Thursday hitting 94 degrees, meteorologists said.

The high-pressure system over the city is also making for unusually dry conditions, a NWS spokesman said.

“It’s keeping precipitation at bay and causing the atmosphere and the air to kind of sink,” NWS spokesman Tim Morrin said.

The anticipated Tuesday high of 92 is significantly more than the Sept. 1 average of 90 degrees, but still falls short of the record 97 degrees reached in 1953.

New Yorkers should get a break on Friday into the weekend when temperatures dip to 85 degrees, forecasters said.
