WILLIAMSBRIDGE — The Gun Hill Brewing Co. is planning to start offering its brews in cans by this fall.

The brewery, which has so far only been distributing its beers to bars as drafts since it opened in February 2014, is now hoping to expand its reach by offering them in cans, according to Dave Lopez, managing partner at the brewery.

"This will enable us to get into more establishments — restaurants, bars — that either have limited draft lines [or] don’t have a draft system at all," he said.

The brewery currently has three fermenters that it uses for draft beer and says it needs to bring in an additional one so that it can start making canned beers without taking away from its regular production schedule. The cans will be Gun Hill's first step towards packaging its beer, as the company does not bottle its drinks.

Gun Hill Brewing Co. just finished an online fundraising campaign on Aug. 24 in support of the effort, raising $9,380 out of its $42,000 goal.

But Lopez said he isn't too concerned with the gap, given that the company still gets to keep the money it raised and could likely generate the remaining funds using other methods.

"We think that, especially heading into the fall, our sales can help make up a lot of the difference," he said. "That number that’s on there was more as sort of like a pie-in-the-sky kind of number than it was a minimum we would need to get this whole thing off the ground."

Gun Hill Brewing Co., located at 3227 Laconia Ave., makes several different types of beers, including Thunder Dog Stout, Revolution Red Rye and Schuyler's American Wheat.
