EAST VILLAGE — The operator of the new medical marijuana dispensary opening next year on East 14th Street has signed a lease on a 3,500-square-foot space, the The Real Deal first reported.
Columbia Care NY LLC signed a five-year lease at 212 East 14th St., near Third Avenue, earlier this summer, according to Peter Kerr, a spokesman for the company.
Kerr confirmed the address but could not immediately verify the size. Columbia Care officials found the location ideal because of its proximity to mass transit and medical facilities like Mount Sinai’s Beth Israel Hospital, he previously told DNAinfo.
The dispensary is set to open in January 2016.
Kerr could not provide specifics on what the facility would look like but said it would be “a very friendly, supportive, well-lighted, pleasant environment.”
Columbia Care is one of five companies that were recently granted licenses to grow and sell marijuana in the state and has already partnered with Mount Sinai to research experimental medical treatments with marijuana.
Three other companies are planning medical marijuana operations in the city, whether to dispense or manufacture the drug.
Those efforts include a manufacturing facility in Queens as well as dispensaries in Manhattan, Queens and the Bronx. It is not immediately clear where the rest of them will be located.
