BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — Bed-Stuy’s annual pride festival returns to Herbert Von King Park this month to celebrate communities in central Brooklyn.

The Audre Lorde Project's Safe OUTside the System Collective hosts “Bed-Stuy Pride” for the fifth year, reinforcing the theme of challenging hate as well as calling attention to police violence.

The organization is searching for vendors to participate in the Aug. 30 event, which will feature artists, performers, workshops, music, fitness and more.

SOS Collective, an anti-violence program, looks to combat issues faced by LGBT people of color by using community-based strategies, according to organizers.

The festivities are meant to “honor the history and resilience” of locals, the event’s description says.

In previous years, the gathering has featured interactive projects that have included a timeline of victims killed in LGBT bias attacks, as well as a “mixtape” recording of attendees answering the question, “What does a safe Bed-Stuy look like for you?”

The fifth annual Bed-Stuy Pride will be held on Aug. 30 at Herbert Von King Park from 12 to 6 p.m. For more information, visit the Audre Lorde Project website here.
