BROOKLYN — Police are looking for a man who exposed himself to a Sunset Park woman and threw her to the ground during an attempted rape on 16th Street.

Police say the man approached the 34-year-old woman from behind as she was entering her building at 4 a.m. on July 20. The man tried to get the woman to let him into the building, but she refused because she knew the suspect didn't live in the building, police said.

The suspect then exposed himself to the woman, police said. When the woman screamed, the suspect pushed her to the ground before fleeing, police said. The victim refused medical treatment immediately after the incident, police said.

On Saturday, police released video of the suspect.

Police said the attempted rape happened on 16th Street but did not release the cross street because the victim was entering her home, a police spokeswoman said. Police described the attack as happening in Sunset Park.

The incident is similar to another attack against a woman in Park Slope on 16th Street and Fifth Avenue on July 21, but a police spokeswoman said investigators don't believe the attacks are related.

In the July 21 attack, a man in his 20s approached a 26-year-old woman at 6:10 a.m. as she was walking in front of 233 16th St. near Fifth Avenue, police said. The man grabbed the woman by the throat and started to choke her, police said. The victim screamed and scared the man away, police said. The woman suffered injuries to her throat but she refused medical attention at the scene, police said.
