CROWN HEIGHTS — Two men were shot and injured inside of a Crown Heights park Wednesday night, police said.

The shooting happened inside Brower Park just before 10 p.m. near the corner of Brooklyn Avenue and Park Place, investigators said. An unknown suspect shot a 23-year-old man once in the left ankle and a 24-year-old once in the right thigh, officials said.

The shooter fled the park in an unknown direction, police said.

Both men were treated at Kings County Hospital.

In a community notification about the shooting, police encouraged those with any information about the crime to contact the 77th Precinct detective squad at (718) 735-0662.

Overall, shootings are down almost 27 percent in the area so far this year, according to NYPD crime statistics. There have been 19 shooting incidents in the 77th Precinct — which covers Prospect Heights and the northern portion of Crown Heights — through July 26 of this year, according to the most recent available data from the department. In the same time period last year, there were 26 incidents.
