WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — A former NYPD detective who was convicted of assault in the 2013 attack on an SUV driver was sentenced to two years in jail for his role in the incident, CBS News reported.

Wojciech Braszczok, 34, was an undercover detective at the time that he and 10 other bikers followed an SUV driven by Alexian Lien after a confrontation on the West Side Highway. The group cornered Lien on West 178th Street, smashed the window of his vehicle and beat him with their fists and helmets.

Video from the scene that was played in court showed Braszczok smashing the rear window of the Range Rover with his helmet.

Braszczok testified that he had chased the SUV because he believed Lien was an aggressor who had fled the scene of an accident. Lien did run over and seriously injure one biker while fleeing from an initial confrontation with the group.

Braszczok, who did not participate in the beating, was acquitted of the most serious charges of gang and first-degree assault in June. However, he was found guilty of second-degree assault, riot, coercion and criminal mischief, according to the Manhattan District Attorney’s office. He faced a sentence of between two and seven years in prison.

The New York Daily News reported that Braszczok, who was fired from his job when he was convicted, was sentenced to two years behind bars, to be served at a city jail.
