MANHATTAN — A Midtown woman scared off a serial burglar she found lurking on her fire escape who had broken into five apartments in the neighborhood in February and March to steal jewelry, electronics, money and clothing, police said.

He had not been arrested as of Wednesday morning, an NYPD spokesman said.

The man broke into two 10th Avenue apartments on Feb. 13 and stole jewelry, electronics, a credit card, cash and clothing, police say.

He broke into another home on West 49th Street on March 4 to steal electronics and jewelry, NYPD officials said.

Two days later, he broke into two units on that street to steal electronics, jewelry and a book bag, police said.

He tried to rob another apartment nearby about 7 a.m. on July 25, but a 24-year-old woman inside heard the man on her fire escape and disturbed him, police said. When the would-be burglar saw her he fled, police said.

Police did not say how the burglar accessed the apartments, from which incident the video was taken, cross streets for the apartments he robbed or times he robbed them.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477).
