LONG ISLAND CITY — A pair of Long Island City streets with the same name will be getting new monikers to help clear up confusion between them.

The two short, dead-end streets are a block apart and flank either side of the courthouse between Jackson Avenue and Sunnyside Yards and are both called Court Square, causing mix-ups for delivery drivers, taxis and others looking for the streets.

"It confuses everybody," said Janice Clarke, a staffer at the courthouse who said passersby frequently stop her for directions. "A lot of people come up to me and can't figure out where they're going."

The streets are now to be renamed Court Square East and Court Square West, according to a bill passed by the City Council last week.

A rep for Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer, who sponsored the legislation, said it was prompted by complaints from constituents who had trouble getting their packages delivered or being picked up by Access-A-Ride.

The change also aims to make it easier for emergency workers to navigate the two blocks, according to the bill.

The new names will go into effect next week, when Mayor Bill de Blasio is expected to sign the legislation.
