THE BRONX — A fast-acting thief stole $20,000 from the SUV of a man who had momentarily dashed into a Fordham bodega but left the doors unlocked, police said.

The 40-year-old victim, whose name was not immediately released, had just pulled his Ford Explorer up to the corner of Webster Avenue and East 178th Street about 5:10 p.m. on July 24 when he hopped out and went into a nearby bodega, police said.

He returned to the SUV to find a bag full of $20,000 missing, police said.

The suspect fled the scene in a Honda Odyssey, police said.

The thief, who was captured in a surveillance image, had not been arrested as of Monday morning, NYPD officials said.

It was not immediately clear why the victim was carrying the large sum of money.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477).
