LOWER EAST SIDE — A burglar stole nearly $3,000 worth of property from a Clinton Street apartment while its occupants were away at work, police said.

Police said a 37-year-old man returned to his apartment, located at 43 Clinton St., on July 23 at 6:30 p.m. and discovered the door locked, even though he and his roommates had not secured it.

He then went to the roof, entered the apartment through a fire escape, police said, and discovered an open window in the living room. Several items were also taken from the bedrooms in the apartment, including a $1,400 Apple laptop, a $600 leather travel bag, clothing, jewelry and a wallet, according to the NYPD.
