GREENPOINT — This year's National Night Out has an added benefit in Greenpoint — meeting the 94th Precinct's new commander.

Capt. Peter Rose started as the new precinct commanding officer earlier in July, after previous commander Capt. James Ryan was transferred to the 42nd precinct in the South Bronx.

Rose came from the 77th Precinct in Crown Heights.

National Night Out is a police-sponsored event that happens across the city on the first Tuesday of August. It's an opportunity for precincts to host barbecues and block parties in hopes of connecting with the community.

The 94th Precinct, which covers Greenpoint and north Williamsburg, will be hosting its National Night Out event on Tuesday, Aug. 4 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. outside the precinct at 100 Meserole Ave.

Rose will introduce himself at the event. It will be one of the first opportunities for neighbors to meet him.
