BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — An 80-year-old woman was pushed to the ground and almost robbed by a woman she tried to help by giving her money for food, police said.

The suspect approached the elderly woman at the intersection of Broadway and Madison Street just before noon on Tuesday and asked for money to get food, according to an NYPD spokeswoman.

When the victim tried to get her wallet from her car to give her the money, the suspect reached for it and pushed the woman to the ground, causing scratches on her elbow and bruising to the head, police said.

The would-be-thief then fled westbound on Broadway without taking anything, according to officials.

The suspect is described as a woman in her 40s, standing 5-foot-6 and weighing approximately 220 pounds. She has brown eyes and braids, according to officials.

Police from the 81st Precinct tweeted a description of the wanted woman shortly following Tuesday's incident, saying she was last seen wearing a multi-colored, pink flower dress. They warned citizens not to approach the suspect if spotted.

No arrests had been made as of Wednesday morning.
