INWOOD — Pick and Eat opened its West 207th Street location Tuesday morning seven months after the owner announced his plan to expand his popular Washington Heights eatery to Inwood.

The restaurant, which serves healthy food with a Caribbean twist, is located in a storefront at the corner of West 207th Street and Broadway. La Piñata Mexican Grill vacated the space last summer.

Pick and Eat’s Inwood location offers the same menu of made-to-order salads, fresh juices, gourmet sandwiches and healthy pasta dishes as the restaurant’s West 177th Street storefront.

Owner Alex Peralta told DNAinfo in January that he decided to open a second outpost farther Uptown after many Inwood residents who frequented the Washington Heights location told him of the need for such a restaurant in the area.

Pick and Eat’s new address has a history of being a difficult spot for businesses, even though sits in a busy shopping area with a lot of pedestrian traffic.

However, Peralta previously told DNAinfo that he was not worried about the spot, noting that the 177th Street space also had a difficult past before Pick and Eat opened there in 2011.

Bryan Perez, a Pick and Eat employee who has worked at both locations, said many people had stopped into the Inwood restaurant Tuesday to voice their excitement about the opening.

“There’s been a lot of, 'Finally! I don’t have to go all the way to 177th Street now,'” he said.

Pick and Eat’s Inwood outpost is currently offering eat-in and takeout options, and Perez said it hopes to have its delivery option up and running in the next few weeks.
