BROOKLYN — A $10,000 diamond ring and other valuable pieces of jewelry were stolen from a safe in a Clinton Street apartment while the owner was on vacation, according to police.

The victim, a 26-year-old woman, was away from her home between June 3 and July 25 when a thief took a 14-carat yellow gold six-prong set ring with a 1.18 carat diamond, according to a police report.

The thief also took a gold band with a clock and another gold band with two rubies and two pearls, both worth $500 each, authorities said.

The valuables were stolen from the victim's safe, which was not damaged or forced open -- but the key to the safe is missing.

The victim's best friend was house-sitting while she was on vacation, and had multiple guests over during that time, police said. It was not immediately known whether the police had identified any suspects in the crime.

Some items in the safe were not stolen, according to police.
