It may soon be lights out for the iconic neon sign that hangs over Montero Bar & Grill on Atlantic Avenue.

The longshoreman's bar at 73 Atlantic Ave. could close after the possible sale of the property and a stretch of others buildings on the block, the New York Times reported.

Owner Pepe Montero told the newspaper that he recently signed an agreement to join his six neighbors in a tentative sale of the properties for $56 million.

"Everyone else on the block wants to sell, so I said OK," said Montero, whose brother Frank is also an owner on the block.

According to the owners' agreement, they will go ahead with the sale if they get an offer of $56 million or more. But for a lower price, they could walk away from the deal or consider individual offers.

While the bar's closure would be the end of Montero's as we know it, the owner hinted that he might not give up entirely on the tavern.

“If we did ever sell,” Montero told the Times, “I could put the whole bar in a container and just move it."
