HUNTERS POINT — New owners have taken over The Laughing Devil comedy club on Vernon Boulevard, reopening the space as a new venue called The Standing Room, which will still serve up laughs, along with a medley of cocktails.

The club at 47-38 Vernon Blvd. was recently renovated and its new ownership — the same team behind comedy club The Stand in Manhattan — is putting an emphasis on its drinks menu, which includes "creative" cocktails and craft beer.

"We want people in the neighborhood to drop in after work or later in the evening, whether or not they're looking to catch a comedy show," co-owner Paul Italia said in a statement.

Cocktails at the new bar cost $10 or $11 and include the Pineapple, a mix of passion fruit rum, pineapple, vanilla and lime that's flambéed, or the Cucumber, which is made with spicy tequila, cucumber and lime, served in a hollowed out bell pepper.

Another concoction is made up of tequila, beet juice and dill, according to the menu.

The venue will also continue to host stand-up, with its most recent show featuring local comedy group Center City.

The Standing Room replaces the Laughing Devil, which had been open since 2011. It's one of two comedy clubs in Long Island City, which also include The Creek and the Cave on nearby Jackson Avenue.
