CONCOURSE — Craft lovers in the South Bronx will soon have a new place to shop.

Michaels, the national arts and crafts chain, plans to open its first location in the South Bronx on Aug. 16 in the Bronx Terminal Market at 700 Exterior St., the company announced in a statement.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 9:45 a.m., and the doors to the new store will open at 10 a.m. Michaels will give out more than $1,500 worth of prizes and gift cards throughout opening day.

The store's layout features wide aisles and departments including home decor, jewelry and art supplies.

Customers will also be able to take a variety of classes at the store, including courses in jewelry making and paper crafting.

Michaels, which recruits locally for its jobs, will employ more than 60 people at its new South Bronx location, and the store will be roughly 22,258 square feet.

“We are thrilled to be joining the Bronx community, and we hope everyone will come out to help us celebrate during our grand opening,” District Manager Chris Scaturro said in a statement. “Our new store features thousands of products that will inspire every crafter at any level from beginner to expert, plus classes for our customers to learn new skills.”
