QUEENS — The city is hoping to keep up with the demand for its municipal IDs by opening additional enrollment locations in areas where they're needed most, officials said.

One of those pop-up enrollment centers will open Monday in downtown Jamaica, at 163-18 Jamaica Ave., where it will serve local residents until July 31, officials said.

According to the mayor's office, as of early June, roughly half a million appointments had been made for people wanting IDNYC and about 250,000 cards were issued since the program's inception in January.

They're available for all New Yorkers aged 14 years old and up, and provide proof of identity and access to basic city services. Residents can present them to join libraries, enter public buildings, such as schools, and open back accounts.

The card also provides discounts at several cultural institutions in New York.

Currently, the city requires appointments to apply for the IDNYC cards. There are 18 permanent enrollment centers across the five boroughs and four pop-up sites that are rotating in locations throughout the city.

The new IDNYC Pop-Up Enrollment Center will operate at 163-18 Jamaica Ave. (suite 607), several blocks from the Jamaica Center subway station on the E, J and Z lines. The site will remain open from July 13 to July 31, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Appointments can be made either by calling 311 or going online. Applicants are required to present proof of identity and residency in New York City. A list of documents that are acceptable can be found here
