CARROLL GARDENS — Even your pet needs a fresh look for the summer.

The owners of a Bay Ridge grooming center opened a new neighborhood salon for cats and dogs July 1, management said.

Carroll Gardens Pet Grooming, located at 121 Douglass St. near Hoyt Street offers baths, haircuts, full grooming and four-to-six-week maintenance services, said Michael Neal, a partner in the business with principle owner Amanda Leung.

Shaggie Pets Grooming Salon on Fifth Avenue in Bay Ridge has been open in the neighborhood for 10 years, said Neal, who has six yorkies, a shih tzu and "a cat that we found on the street" named Garfield.

The cost and duration of services varies depending on the breed of the dog or cat and the pet's condition when it arrives at the center.

"It also depends on the dog's temperament," Neal said.

Baths typically start around $45 but a full groom for a high-maintenance breed, like poodles, can go up to $100.

Cat grooming can cost between $85 to $95.

Carroll Gardens Pet Grooming takes appointments at 347-599-2522. They are typically open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. but plan to soon add evening hours.
