CROWN HEIGHTS — A 20-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man have been arrested in the fatal stabbing of a young man on Eastern Parkway last month, police said.

Donasia Vassell, 20, and Jermaine Matthews, 18, both of Crown Heights, were arrested early Wednesday morning on charges of murder and criminal possession of a weapon in connection to the June 10 homicide that left 17-year-old John Garrett dead.

At the time of the attack, Garrett’s father told DNAinfo New York he was an “excellent kid.”

“He was going to go to college, but he didn't get a chance to finish high school," he said.

The stabbing came hours after Garrett’s friend Jamal Joseph, 18, was stabbed in the neck and killed a block away at a Utica Avenue sneaker store.

Police said Vassell and Matthews were not believed to be responsible for Joseph’s death. The two stabbings are believed to be unrelated, according to authorities. There have been no arrests in connection to Joseph's death as of Wednesday.

The pair has not yet been arraigned as of Wednesday morning, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney's office.
