MEATPACKING DISTRICT — The High Line will host careful movement this summer with a new Tai Chi series.

The sessions are free and run every Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. every Tuesday through Sept. 29. They meet at the High Line at West 12th Street, under the Standard Hotel.

"Tai Chi movements are believed to help calm the emotions, focus the mind and strengthen the immune system," the High Line website says.

Beginners are welcome and will learn the first few moves of Taoist Tai Chi Society founder Master Moy Lin Shin's 108 move set which is designed to improve health, according to the website.

"Stretching, full range of motion and the continuous turning of the spine distinguish this art at the physical level," it says.

In the event of rain, the class will relocate to the 14th Street Passage, located on the High Line at 14th Street.
