UPPER EAST SIDE — Neighborhood mainstay William Greenberg Desserts will be closed for a week while it gets a makeover, according to a sign posted at the shop.

The windows of the 1100 Madison Ave. storefront were papered up as of Monday afternoon and a sign was posted notifying patrons that it will be closed until July 13 while the bakery gets "a new look."

The sign did not share details about what kind of renovations would be done, and no one picked up calls to the store.

Greenberg — which opened in 1946 and has been mentioned on Jerry Seinfeld's sitcom and more recently on "Mad Men" — is one of the last remnants of old kosher bakeries. Gertel's on the Lower East Side closed in 2007 and Jon Vie in the West Village closed in 2005.

The bakery quickly became known for its traditional Jewish fare, such as rugelach, challah and honey cake. And its black and white cookies were deemed "Best of" by New York Magazine in 2008.

Greenberg's outpost inside the Plaza Hotel's Food Hall will still be taking orders while the store is closed, according to the sign. Calls to that location were not immediately returned.
