QUEENS — A Queens non-profit, which hopes to engage local residents in public art projects, is calling on artists to participate in its outdoor festival this fall.

The second Queens Art Intervention, run by the Rego Park Green Alliance Studio, a group promoting community-oriented projects, is slated for Sept. 19 and 20, the organizers said.

“It is a chance to use your creativity and artistry to interact with the Queens community,” the group wrote in a statement.

Those interested in participating should submit their projects by July 15. Artists do not have to live in Queens, but their project must take place in the borough.

“We are really looking to build more of an artist community in the borough and beyond,” said Yvonne Shortt, executive director of the group.

Proposals must "inspire, enlighten, surprise, create dialogue and encourage collaborations," the organizers said.

Several projects have already been selected for this year's festival, the group said. One of them, “Mobile Meditation on the Queens Jazz Trail” by Suran Song, will involve a truck in which people will be able to lie down, watch light installations placed inside and listen to jazz music, Shortt said.

Queens residents will also be able to participate in "Pedestrian Penguin," a card game seeking to improve street safety by discussing how people drive, bike and walk.

Last year, more than 30 artists, including musicians, dancers and poets, presented their projects in 12 neighborhoods throughout the borough during the first Queens Art Intervention.
