TOMPKINSVILLE — A man sitting on a park bench died after an SUV popped the curb and crashed into him Wednesday, police said.
David Craig, 56, was sitting on a bench at the corner of Bay Street and Victory Boulevard at about 1:36 p.m. when a 2008 Nissan Rogue, being driven southbound on Victory Boulevard by Oriamor Benson, 25, crashed into a 2003 Nissan Altima making a left turn from Bay Street, police said.
Benson's car veered to the right then mounted the curb and struck Craig, police said.
Craig was taken to Richmond University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Benson was also taken to the same hospital where she was arrested and charged with driving while ability impaired.
