MANHATTAN — An Upper East Side man stabbed another man in the arm and butt on Third Avenue last week — one of a string of violent crimes that have occurred in the area in the past week, police said.

Anthony Baez, 39, stabbed a 37-year-old man in front of the George Washington Houses on 1875 Third Ave. at roughly 4:30 p.m. on June 16, police said. The motive for the attack wasn't immediately clear, but NYPD officials said there was a verbal dispute prior to the stabbing.

Baez was arrested on 103rd Street at about 11:45 p.m. the next day, and charged with assault with a weapon, a felony, and possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor, police said.

The victim was taken to Metropolitan Hospital Center in stable condition, according to police.

Baez is being held at Rikers Island on $10,000 cash/$20,000 bond bail. He was due back in court on Tuesday.

His attorney was not immediately available for comment.

This incident is at least the third violent crime that took place in the area within a week.

On Monday night, a 19-year-old girl was shot in the leg while sitting outside of the Washington Houses. As of Tuesday, there were no arrests.

And on Sunday morning, a 20-year-old employee of the Foot Locker on Third Avenue and 105th Street was slashed in the face by an unknown group of men shopping in the store, according to police.

At roughly 11:30 a.m. on June 21, the victim approached the group of men who told him, "Leave us alone, we are gonna buy what we are gonna buy," according to NYPD officials.

When he approached them the second time, he was cut on the face by an unknown object and the group fled the scene, police said.

Police made no arrests and continue to investigate.
