Friday, June 19

Van Morrison Plays Live

Where: Forest Hills Tennis Stadium, 1 Tennis Pl., Forest Hills

Acclaimed Grammy-winning Irish singer and songwriter Van Morrison performs at the historic Forest Hills Stadium. The James Hunter Six, an English soul group, will be the opening act. Doors open at 6 p.m., show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets range from $70.60 to $200.60 and can be purchased here.

Saturday, June 20

Summer Solstice Festival

Where: King Manor Museum in Rufus King Park, 153rd Street and Jamaica Avenue, Jamaica

Celebrate the beginning of summer at King Manor Museum with Summer Solstice Festival for kids. Children will learn to make ice cream the old fashioned way and will work on several "sun-inspired” projects, including making flowers out of tissue paper and creating sun prints. During the free festival, which will run from noon to 4 p.m., children will also read stories about summertime fun, blow giant bubbles and learn several historic games.

Learn to Sail at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park

Where: Meadow Lake, Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, 30 Meadow Lake Rd., Queens

Rig a boat and tie some knots with sailing classes this summer at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. The American Small Craft Association starts its beginners sailing classes on Saturday, June 20 with a lecture at the World's Fair Boathouse. The course costs $300 and covers six classes on Meadow Lake, which begin June 27, as well as classroom instruction and a mandatory swim test. 

► Latino Music Festival

Where: 61st Street between Roosevelt Avenue and Woodside Avenue, Woodside

Woodside on the Move and NYC Weekend Walks will host a free outdoor concert, featuring a lineup of Latin music and dance. The event will run from 12 to 4 p.m. and is free for all. A rain date is scheduled for Saturday, June 27. 

Sunday, June 21

International Yoga Day Celebration

Where: The Hindu Temple Society of North America, 45-57 Bowne St., Flushing

Yoga enthusiasts are invited to International Yoga Day at the Hindu Temple Society of North America. The free all-day event which starts at 9 a.m. will feature sun salutations, asanas, meditations and workshops about the posture, techniques and benefits of yoga. Registration is required.

Live Music in Diversity Plaza

Where: Diversity Plaza, 37th Road between 74th Street and Broadway, Jackson Heights

Musicians playing tunes from around the world will perform Sunday in Diversity Plaza as part of the Make Music New York celebration. The event starts at 1 p.m. with a performance from the Jackson Heights Community Orchestra. Los Hijos del la Gran Puna, SA, The URBAN Street Band and AC Haley will also play in the plaza. The show is free, and it ends at 6 p.m.

► Community Programming Initiative at Trans-Pecos

Where: Trans-Pecos, 915 Wyckoff Av., Ridgewood. Access this show at back entrance on Weirfield Street.

The Community Programming initiative allows local community groups to perform and collaborate in the space. Head to Trans-Pecos between 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Found Sound Nation Street Studio will be there with NYC's producers project and Hang Time resident DJs. 

Outdoor Salsa Dancing

Where: Thomson Hill Park/Noonan Playground, Greenpoint Avenue and 42nd Street, Sunnyside

Sunnyside’s Thalia Spanish Theatre will host outdoor events each weekend in June. On June 21, enjoy live Salsa dancers who will perform at Noonan Playground from 1 to 2 p.m, free of charge.

► Horror Father’s Day

Where: Museum of the Moving Image, 36-01 35th Ave., Astoria

Those who shun the traditional mushy, sentimental Father’s Day can celebrate with a day of dad-themed horror flicks at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria. The lineup includes “The Night of the Hunter” (2 p.m.), “Eyes Without a Face" (4:30 p.m.) and, of course, “The Shining” (6:30 p.m.). Tickets to each screening cost $12.
