NEW YORK CITY — City taxi and limousine regulations will catch up to apps like Uber, if a series of modifications are passed on Monday, the Taxi and Limousine Commission said.

The TLC has been negotiating with companies like Uber for months, working on a series of regulations that work for both parties, a spokesman said.

The new rules will hold drivers accountable to the same standards as regular taxis and limousines, requiring rates to be posted, detailed receipts, and regulating where drivers can wait at airports, among other changes.

“Basically what we were doing was bringing the rules up to speed with regards to the way that dispatch has evolved,” said Allan Fromberg, a spokesman for the TLC. “We make sure that consumer protections are in place, we make sure there is accountability...this is just a different way that [vehicles are dispatched].”

Uber’s general manager for the city Josh Mohrer voiced his support for the changes.

“Uber is proud to support the Taxi and Limousine Commission’s revised rules which allow tech innovation to continue making New York City’s transportation system more progressive for all riders and drivers and ensure that drivers and passengers are protected,” Mohrer said.
