GRYMES HILL — A hit and run driver who crashed into a cab and then got out of his car and tried to run away from police on foot had a loaded gun in his vehicle, prosecutors said.

Andrew William, 19, was driving in Grymes Hill on Monday when he crashed his 2014 Nissan Altima into a cab at about 3:27 a.m., prosecutors said.

William drove away from the crash scene but police caught up with him near the intersection of Bowen and Roff streets, prosecutors said. William then fled the car on foot in a bid to avoid being arrested, but was eventually caught, they said.

Police found a loaded .45 semi-automatic pistol inside William's car, prosecutors said.

William was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and leaving the scene of an incident without reporting property damage at his arraignment, the Staten Island District Attorney's office said.

His bail was set at $20,000 and he's due back in court on Friday.

William's lawyer did not respond to a request for comment.
