UPPER WEST SIDE — Two parked cars were broken into on the same night and valuables worth thousands of dollars were stolen from them, police said.

The drivers parked their cars overnight on Riverside Boulevard at West 64th Street and on Riverside Drive at West 74th Street and returned the morning of June 9 to find their back windows smashed and thousands of dollars in possessions stolen, police said.

A 64-year-old woman discovered her $1,200 Apple Macbook Air laptop was stolen through the smashed back passenger window of her 2001 Volvo when she returned to her car at 7:45 a.m.

The thief also stole her Chase Bank checkbooks, police said. The woman had parked the car there the night before at 7:30 p.m., police said.

Also on June 9, at around 8:30 a.m., a 35-year-old man returned to Riverside Boulevard and West 64th Street to find someone had smashed the back passenger of his 2014 BMW and stolen his $2,300 golf clubs.

He had parked his car at the location the night before at 8 p.m., police said.

Police did not say whether they thought the two incidents were the work of the same thief.
