QUEENS — An off-duty state corrections officer shot and killed a man who police said was trying to steal motorcycles in front of an Ozone Park bike club Saturday night.

The man, who police said had his face partially covered by a bandanas, approached the group standing in front of N.W.O Clubhouse on Rockaway Boulevard and 95th Avenue at about 10:30 p.m.

He pulled out a gun and demanded they drop their motorcycle keys, according to the NYPD.

Police said that an off-duty state corrections officer, who belonged to the group, fired two shots at the suspect, hitting him in the head.

The man, whose name has not been released pending family notification, was rushed to Jamaica Hospital where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

Police said he had 56 arrests, more than 30 of them sealed. His priors included robberies and drug-related activity, police said.

Police officials did not release the name of the corrections officer, who they said has not been charged as of Monday morning.

The state Department of Corrections did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.
