Man Shot in Leg in South Bronx Tried to Bike Himself to Hospital: Police

MOTT HAVEN — A Bronx man who was shot in the leg during an argument over a girl tried to bike himself to the hospital, according to the NYPD.

Ramon Martinez, 31, is suspected of shooting the 40-year-old victim in the leg at roughly 8:30 p.m. on June 9, in front of 513 E. 146th St, after realizing that they had both been seeing the same girl, police said.

The victim, who's 6-foot-4 and weighs about 280 pounds, then climbed onto his bike and tried to ride it to Lincoln Hospital, until he spotted a police officer at 146th Street and Willis Avenue, who helped him call an ambulance, police said.

The victim identified the shooter to officers, and he's been cooperating with the investigation, police said. 

Police are still looking for Martinez, who they described as a 5-foot-4, black haired, brown eyed man, weighing about 160 pounds. He has previously been convicted for criminal sale of a controlled substance.

Other recent crimes in the 40th Precinct include:

► A Bronx man was shot in the back, after he threw an unopened can of Pepsi at a man during an argument, police said.

Rival crew members Eric Johnson and the victim, both 23 years old, were arguing outside of 838 Westchester Ave. just after 1 p.m. on June 9, when Rodriguez hurled a full can of Pepsi at Johnson, police said.

Johnson then allegedly took a gun out of his backpack and shot Rodriguez in the back, according to NYPD.

The victim went to Lincoln Hospital and is in stable condition, police said.

He has an extensive history of robberies and assaults, and Johnson was arrested in 2009 for possession of a firearm, officials said.

Officers are still searching for Johnson, who they described as a 6-foot-4 man, with black hair and brown eyes, and weighing 230 pounds.
