INWOOD — Uptown residents will be able to put down a blanket in Fort Tryon Park and listen to the strains of a string quartet, or take in a piece by Mozart while shopping at the Inwood Greenmarket this summer.

Listen Closely, an Inwood chamber music initiative, announced it would host its second-annual concert series beginning June 18. The 14 concerts will be held at various places, including Abby’s Lawn in Fort Tryon Park, the Bruce Reynolds Memorial Garden and the Inwood Greenmarket.

The series features an “eclectic mix of fun, accessible and beautiful music” for the whole family, the group said on its website. There will also be interactions between the audience and performers, they said.

Listen Closely was formed by Inwood musicians and composers who wanted to share classical music with the Uptown community. The group held its first concert season during the winter of 2013-'14.

“We believe that classical music can be a powerfully positive presence in the community,” the group’s mission statement reads. “We hope to improve the quality of life in our neighborhood by providing affordable and convenient access to live performances.”

This summer’s series, which is being funded in part by the Manhattan Community Arts Fund and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, will offer works from a wide range of composers.

In June, a quartet of flute, violin, viola and cello players will perform pieces by Mozart, Mexican composer Eduardo Gamboa and Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos.

The series will wrap up in mid-September.
