GRASMERE — A man died after he was struck by a bus while walking across the Staten Island Expressway early Monday, police said.

Vincent McGowan, 34, attempted to cross the Staten Island Expressway at Mosel Avenue from south to north at 12:23 a.m., police said.

As he walked across the highway — which has no crosswalk at the intersection — McGowan was struck by a 2007 Omni bus traveling eastbound, police said.

EMS transported McGowan to Staten Island University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the bus stayed at the scene and has not been charged with a crime. An investigation is ongoing, police said.
