FAR ROCKAWAY — A man fired shots at two police officers early Sunday and police are looking for a group of six men for questioning, according to the NYPD.

A police sergeant dressed in plainclothes and another officer were patrolling the New York City Housing Authority complex on Redfern Avenue on June 7 at 1:45 a.m. when they observed a group of six men standing in front of 14-30 Redfern Ave., police said.

The officers parked their car and tried to get into 14-20 Redfern Ave., another building in the complex, according to police.

But as they walked across the street, an unidentified man wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt displayed a firearm and shot three times in their direction, then fled.

The two officers did not return fire and took cover while requesting assistance, police said.

They were taken to Long Island Jewish Hospital in stable condition.

The sergeant was treated for tinnitus and released and the officer was treated for back spasms and a bruised knee, police said.

Three 9mm shell casings were found in front of the building, but the firearm was not recovered.

Surveillance video from the Redfern Houses captured the group of six men running through the building's doors after the incident.

Police are looking to question them about the shooting, they said.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
