Man Hit From Behind With a Shovel While Sitting on Park Bench, Police Say

LOWER EAST SIDE — A man was hit from behind with a shovel while he was sitting on a bench in front of the LaGuardia Houses, police said.

Police said an acquaintance of the vicitm hit him in the back with a broken shovel while the attacker's sister and boyfriend punched him in the head at about 11:30 p.m. on May 22 before fleeing.

The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital where he was treated for cuts to the head as well as “severe lacerations and bruising” on his back, according to the NYPD.

Police described the acquaintance as a 5-foot-9, 31-year-old man who weighed about 190 pounds. No descriptions were given for his sister or her boyfriend.
