An Inwood couple lucky in love decided to roll the dice with New York City’s traffic officers.
The pair parked their orange Jeep on an Uptown street this week, leaving a special note for police in the front windshield asking them to have mercy on their illegally parked car.
“Dear Ticketing Officer,” the note reads. “We are away until June 2nd getting married and going on our honeymoon. If there is any way you can just ticket the Jeep while we’re away and not tow us, we’d consider it the best wedding present ever! We’ll happily pay all fines.”
A local resident posted a picture of the vehicle to a local Facebook group last week offering best wishes.
“Fingers crossed that this, and the marriage, works out for them,” the post read.
The car was parked on an Inwood street that mandates alternate-side parking regulations once per week on Wednesday mornings, and it was still there as of Wednesday afternoon.
The bride, Meghan Cartwright, 31, explained that she and her husband, Rory Given, 29, came up with the parking plan in a haze of moving and preparing for their California wedding.
“We just moved to the area less than a month ago,” Cartwright told DNAinfo while on her honeymoon. “We were leaving [for the wedding] and I realized, ‘Oh God, what are we going to do with the Jeep?’”
Cartwright said that they parked the car on May 16 and hoped for the best. The Jeep did get a ticket on May 20 that they already paid online, she said. Cartwright felt lucky that the vehicle was still there.
“We were just kind of hoping they would take pity on us,” she said.
The pair plans to return from their Hawaiian honeymoon in time to move the car before next Wednesday’s scheduled street cleaning.
As for their recent wedding?
“It was amazing,” Cartwright said.
