Police Patrols Increased After 3 Muggings in Central Park, Officials Say

CIVIC CENTER — The NYPD has beefed up patrols in Central Park after three unrelated robberies occurred over the weekend.

The first incident happened Saturday night at about 9:30 p.m. when a group of about 15 teens got into an argument with a couple at the Heckscher Playground at the southern part of the park.

One of the girls from the group allegedly punched a 17-year-old girl in the face after threatening her with a “taser type device,” according to the NYPD.

While the woman was being attacked, another boy in the group took her purse and removed her iPhone.

The female suspect is about five feet five inches tall and 135 pounds.

The male suspect is about six feet tall and two hundreds and tens pounds.

A man was also robbed at gunpoint at Belvedere Castle early Sunday morning.

The robbery happened at about 1:30 a.m., according to police, and the victim’s property was later recovered.

He was not injured and police are looking for a man with dreadlocks.

In the last incident a woman was walking on East Drive at about 8:15 pm. Sunday when a man tried to engage her in conversation.

When she rebuffed his advances, he allegedly stole her purse, police said. The woman was not injured.

There were only four the since the beginning of the year before the weekend, NYPD Chief of Detectives Bob Boyce said during a press conference at police headquarters Monday afternoon.
