FINANCIAL DISTRICT — The chef and co-owner of the East Village eatery Edi & the Wolf and cocktail bar Third Man is bringing his Austrian flavors to the Financial District.

Chef Eduard Frauneder is planning to open a cozy “neighborhood joint” at 109 Washington St. this summer, he said.

The 35-seat restaurant, which has yet to be named, will also have a small outdoor seating area.

While the menu has not been set, Frauneder told Community Board 1 members Wednesday that the new, casual spot will offer "Austrian-leaning" fare with an affordable price point.

Frauneder's restaurant Edi & the Wolf, which opened several years ago on Avenue C, serves up the chef's take on food from his home country of Austria, like Weiner Schnitzel for $22 and Spatzle for $19.

The new restaurant will also serve up craft cocktails and a curated selection of beers and wine.

"We like to bring food and art together," Frauneder said of his restaurant and bars' aesthetics. "What we create are sort of like jewel-boxes."

CB1 Financial District Committee members gave Frauneder their support for his liquor license bid. The eatery plans to stay open to 1 a.m. on weekdays and 2 a.m. on weekends.
