Thieves Arrested for Shoplifting at Century 21

UPPER WEST SIDE — A pair of middle-aged thieves tried to steal a pricey jacket and an array of beauty products from a Century 21 before getting caught, police said. 

The duo, a 46-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man, were seen by employees trying to exit the department store at 1972 Broadway with an $850 padded jacket and $700 worth of face creams and body oil on May 2, police said. 

Employees who saw the shoplifters trying to leave without paying detained them and called the police at roughly 10 p.m., police said. They were arrested on the scene, police said. 

The store declined to comment. 

Other notable crimes in the 20th Precinct include:

► A $2,500 bicycle was stolen from a railing outside 150 W. 72nd St, where its owner had chained it up overnight, police said. The 30-year-old victim chained the 10-speed bike up on May 4 at noon and returned to find it gone at 2:30 a.m. the next day.

► A teen had his Macbook Pro laptop, worth $2,080, stolen from a locker at Manhattan Movement and Arts Studio at 248 W. 60th St., police said. The victim, 19, put his backpack, which held the $2,080 laptop, in a locker for half an hour and returned at 1 p.m. on May 5 to find it gone. The studio did not immediately return a request for comment. 

► A purse holding $1,600 in cash, credit cards and a phone charger was stolen from a car parked overnight in front of 232 W 61st St., police said. A thief smashed one of the rear passenger windows of the 2003 Honda and stole the purse sometime between 11 p.m. on May 2 when the owner parked it and 11 a.m. on May 3 when she returned. 

► A man playing basketball at the courts inside Riverside Park at West 76th Street had his Samsung Galaxy Phone, worth $70, and credit cards stolen out of a backpack he left on the side of the court, police said. The 22-year-old victim finished playing after an hour on April 30 discovered the theft  at about 7 p.m. 

► A shoplifter stole a Vince leather jacket and a white denim jacket, worth a combine $1,194, from the boutique BOC at 410 Columbus Ave., police said. A witness saw the thief take the property without paying at about 3:30 p.m. on April 30. Police could not provide a description of the thief, and the store declined to comment.
