Video Calls On New Yorkers to 'Poop' On Fulton Center

A new online video is calling on New Yorkers to "poop" on the Fulton Center, the MTA's shiny new transit hub.

The video, produced by a comedy group called Weird Giants and the activists behind the Twitter hashtag #NoFareHikes, calls out the MTA's repeated increases in the cost of a subway ride, contrasting the agency's proclaimed need for money with its $1.4 billion new station.

The video mocks the station's planned retail options, which officials have vowed will be non-touristy and "geared towards residents." (The video also states that fewer than one percent of New York City lives in the Financial District, pointing to that as evidence that the transit authority is catering — literally — to bankers on Wall Street over everyday New Yorkers.)

Check out the video below, then look on Twitter for the hashtag #PoopOnFultonCenter to see what people are saying about it.

Asked about the video, MTA spokesman Adam Lisberg pointed out that the Fulton Center is 91% federally funded, and said "only $130 million" of the station's funding came from the MTA.
