SOUTH JAMAICA — A Queens man who fatally shot a 70-year-old woman in the head when she went to answer the door was arrested over the weekend, police said.
Julian Douglas, 22, a South Ozone resident, gunned down Leta Webb on her doorstep at her 119th Avenue home, near 153rd Street, about 1:30 a.m. on March 31, police said.
Douglas was arrested at about 5 p.m. on April 24 after police received a tip in the case. He was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon, according to the criminal complaint from the Queens District Attorney's office.
The motive for the shooting was still unclear.
During a press conference after the attack, Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said the shooting maybe have been a "possible retaliation" against another family member.
But the day after the incident, relatives and friends of Webb, a homemaker who lived in the neighborhood for more than 20 years, said they believed Webb wasn't the intended target.
Webb's 27-year-old son, Arnold Webb, is currently serving 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to a first-degree manslaughter charge in 2011.
Douglas was arrested in 2011 for possession of marijuana, police said.
Information regarding Douglas' lawyer was not immediately available.
